I am very new in the soy candle business and have been experimenting with different scents and wicks. I poured a 9 oz candle into a jar that was widest at 3.25. The scent was very strong prior to burning the candle. I used a #14 wick in the jar and the melt pool was to the sides in about 4 hours. When it burns though, there is no scent. If it's not burning and I smell the candle it is strong. Would the wrong wick still affect the scent throw if it is burning correctly?

Scent throw

Submitted by Soyawax Mike on Mon, 07/26/2004 - 11:49. Chandler Channel News | Guild Membership SIG | The Chandler Guild Business ModelAs you know there was great enthusiasm at the 3 day Chandler Congress last summer in August 2003. It will take much more than 3 days and enthusiasm to have a functional Guild that operates 365 days per year. At the Congress we agreed that 2004 would be an exploratory year to decide what form the Guild would take as a permanent organization. We found out that a volunteer Board of 12 people cannot devote the time and effort necessary without financial compensation. The Guild is a great idea that must now move from good idea to a functional reality.
We decided not to have a similar 3 day "show" this summer, but rather skip one year of Chandler Congress until we can build a working organization so that a Chandler Guild Congress event in Summer 2005 will have proper followup and a strong Guild organizartion behind it.
Revisiting Scent Throw
Submitted by alightsoy on Thu, 05/27/2004 - 16:33. Chandler Channel News | Candle Production and Quality SIG | Fragrance, EO, and Dye Research SIG | General Supply Research SIGI am in the process of looking for a new FO supplier. I've been using many oils from Nature's Garden, but I'm not satisfied that these are the best quality scents I can get.
I saw that someone else on here said they were trying Lebermuth oils. I would like to know if you had any success? I've received about 40 1 oz. samples from Lebermuth for testing purposes and I just cannot get them to work in candles. I've tried different waxes/additives, etc and still no scent throw at all. I've been told by 2 other candlemakers (not soy users) that Lebermuth should be avoided for candle scents because they're not strong enough. Any ideas here?
Where is everyone?
Submitted by alightsoy on Tue, 05/11/2004 - 14:35. Chandler Channel News | Guild Membership SIG | All SIG NewsI am wondering where everyone is? I have thought about attending the chandler guild annual meeting, but after watching this website for several months now, I'm not sure theres much to the chandler guild.
Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but whats going on?
TIA
Amanda
Promo Ops: March is National Crafts Month!
Submitted by Sohodojo Jim on Thu, 03/04/2004 - 14:26. Chandler Channel News | Marketing and Business Presentation SIGBe on the alert all this month for opportunities to showcase your Chandler Guild member business as part of National Crafts Month. Too often the word 'crafts' is associated with simplistic, do-it-yourself hobby activities. This domain of crafting is all well and good. But we forget that most manufacturing before the Industrial Revolution was home-based and done through craft-scale production processes.
This is NOT Goodbye!

We have unfortunately come across a small set-back! That does not mean it has stopped us! Oh no, far from it.
We will be involved in every way possible with the soy candle industry. I will continue to be on the board working with them to keep the Chandler Guild moving along. I will do everything in my power to keep the soy candle industry moving and growing. This will also free Dan & I up to be more help in working with the Annual Congress.
Best Timeframe for the Guild's Annual Congress?

Submitted by Jen on Tue, 12/23/2003 - 23:15. Chandler Channel News | Candle Production and Quality SIGI have not been here for ages have been too busy the last month sorry. I have had two customers complain about a fuel smell when the candles are burning. One was a candy cane votive and the other a fresh linen container candle. The fact it's happened twice now with two scents and waxes gives me a red flag. Anyone else had this problem or know what is causing it? Thanks for any advice. I will be gone again though. December 27th we are heading south to watch those Hawkeyes play in Tampa. Have a great holiday all!!
Where are we now?
Submitted by jpainter on Mon, 12/01/2003 - 14:17. Chandler Channel News | All SIG News | The Chandler Guild CommunityOn August 24th 2003 we met together, formed SIGS and elected a Table of 12.
It is now 3 months later and other than seeing Chandlers helping other Chandlers (and that's a good thing I might add), I have not seen many updates or other SIG/Table of 12 information being posted.
Are folks still interested in this, or are we just too busy right now?
Just curious...

Wax is, indeed, ready to ship
Submitted by Cottage Chandler on Mon, 09/29/2003 - 23:24. Chandler Channel News | Frontpieces | General Supply Research SIG | Supplier RecommendationsHello fellow chandlers! I just wanted to let you know that I contacted my wax distributor (Melonie Throne) and ordered some votive wax. I was in a pinch to get a big order out, but I did not relay that to her. I want you to know that I received the wax the NEXT day! I know this may be a bit much to expect on a regular basis, but it left me elated.
Also, I ordered a bunch of votive trays and a heat gun from the Belbecks (Ewe-R-Wooly folks). They also arrived post haste and in good order. The heat gun has already out lasted 2 I bought from a different supplier.
I encourage you all to support our chandlers in their distribution efforts. I know what they're doingi is not easy when we all have a million other things we need to do for our own businesses. Good job guys! Customer service is where it's at!
