Scent throw

I am very new in the soy candle business and have been experimenting with different scents and wicks. I poured a 9 oz candle into a jar that was widest at 3.25. The scent was very strong prior to burning the candle. I used a #14 wick in the jar and the melt pool was to the sides in about 4 hours. When it burns though, there is no scent. If it's not burning and I smell the candle it is strong. Would the wrong wick still affect the scent throw if it is burning correctly?

I was wondering if anyone knows what causes soy candles in jars to turn yellow. It seems to happen when exposed to sunlight. Is there anything that can be done or added to prevent this. I appreciate any help.

Thank You,

2nd Chandler Guild Meeting

According to Mike's website, Soyawax, the 2nd Annual Chandler Guild Meeting is August 21 and 22. I'm rather surprised and dismayed that it wasn't announced on or through this site.

Accumulation Of Oils In Jar Candles

Hello All,

Has anyone else experienced oils accumulating at the tops of their jar candles? I am fairly new at making candles and I noticed that my jar candles are starting to accumulate liquid (oil) at the tops of the candles. Some have little beads and others have alot of accumulation. I don't know what is causing this. I keep then in a 78 degree climate, so it is not because of the summer heat. I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on shipping candles in hot climates? I live in Arizona and our temperature are well over 100 degrees during the summer months. I am starting to get requests to ship and I don't know what to do.

Thanks
Frank

Shipping Candles

Hello friends,

A while ago someone posted a question about shipping candles. I think it was Candlelier Brian who commented on using 2 boxes when shipping. I just wanted to let everyone know that we shipped candles to Florida from Indiana and they arrived fine. We wrapped the candle with a small piece of bubble wrap and placed it in a box and placed that box in another box. The candles arrived safely and this will be my mode of shipping candles from now on.

Where are we now?

On August 24th 2003 we met together, formed SIGS and elected a Table of 12.

It is now 3 months later and other than seeing Chandlers helping other Chandlers (and that's a good thing I might add), I have not seen many updates or other SIG/Table of 12 information being posted.

Are folks still interested in this, or are we just too busy right now?

Just curious...

Important News: Brian Agrees to Lead Guild Mediation Team

"He who knows only his own side of the case, knows little of that." - John Stuart Mill

The Guild has elected a governing body, The Table of Twelve. The Table of Twelve is now forming a conflict resolution Team of Three mediators. Brian Bock, of West Virginia has stepped forward to lead the Mediation Team. Any Guild members that have a complaint or any guild members that have a business dispute can submit their situation to this team for productive resolution. That process will be much more productive than random complaints, angry statements and accusations.
