Water Jacket Melters 500# and 1000#

We have one 500# water jacket wax melter and one 1000# water jacket wax melter. These were used during the fall season of 2006 for approximately 4 months. We purchased them new. They have only been filled with virgin soy wax (no scent or dye). These are currently in storage in Colorado. The 500# has been reduced to $1700 and the 1000# has been reduced to $3200. We can work with you on pick or delivery in Colorado, or we can palletize them for shipping via freight line.

The New Look and Feel of the Chandler Guild Web Site

While the Guild is mostly in a state of dormancy due to a lack of funding for us to move it forward, the loyal users who visit here will notice a dramatic change in the look and feel of the site.

This massive site update was required for security reasons. A vulnerability in the PHP web scripting language and our Drupal content management system had to be fixed by performing a significant upgrade. In one fell swoop we went from the moldy version 4.2 to the latest 4.6.2 version of Drupal.

While we cannot afford to do more at this moment, this significant upgrade positions us to make significant changes in the functionality of the web site. These changes are fundamental to our moving the Guild forward. Two big changes are now possible. We can have member-only content as well as public content. And we will be able to have very flexible and compelling e-commerce.

Retail Candle Packaging

Hi Everyone,

Can someone share where I might find quality votive retail packaging? I am looking for the clam shell type packaging that Yankee uses for their votives. I have a shop and I have run out of retail packaging for my votives. I would like to find a container that holds 13 votives. Like a Bakers dozen kind.. Buy 12 get 1 free sort of thing. I am pretty desperate at this point so any help would be much appreciated.

Soy wax turning Yellow

I was wondering if anyone knows what causes soy candles in jars to turn yellow. It seems to happen when exposed to sunlight. Is there anything that can be done or added to prevent this. I appreciate any help.

Thank You,

Hi Everyone,

Seems as everything has been pretty quiet lately. I just wanted to take this time to wish everyone a successful holiday season. Hopefully the Chandler Guild is not going to end and we will see a more productive 2005.
I would love to hear from some of our members. Please private e-mail me if you wish to 'chat' or please post your hello's on the forum.

Sink hole in candles

We've been having problems with a sinkhole/crater in the 18 oz and 28 oz candles we are pouring. The top forms over but then later, after full cooling, there is a crater or sinkhole on the top.

How can we prevent or fix? We are not pouring at a high temperature -- 140-150. We are not pouring too quickly, either.

Soywax trade marked??

This came to a fellow candle maker who makes Soy Wax candles. When I looked up this information I see they have "soywax" not "soy wax" trademarked. So what is a person to claim if they are using Soy Wax in their candles?

CEASE AND DESIST USE OF SOY WAX TERM:
From E.R. W**ley and The M*ble Wh*te Company

We understand you are using the term "Soy Wax" in your products and we are not aware of any established relationship with our companies. Even the term SoyaWax is a conflict, as it is too close in name, and our usage applies to candles as well as balms. We own the Registered Mark Soy Wax, serial number: 78415479 as you can note below. You may also verify this on the United States Patent, Copyright and Trademark offices. We purchase our Soy Wax from Cargill who owns Patent Number: 6,645,261 which does go beyond candle use and into cosmetic applications, such as balm.

Buying Power

Hi Everyone,

Unfortuanetly, it doesn't look as if we will be having a Chandler conference this year. One of the things I was going to address would have been 'buying power' amongst all of the chandlers. Well, I have decided to address this anyway, especially with the holiday season approaching. Is there any one who would be willing to get together (via e-mail and phone) that would want to discuss this with me?

Annual Chandler Congress Status

As you know there was great enthusiasm at the 3 day Chandler Congress last summer in August 2003. It will take much more than 3 days and enthusiasm to have a functional Guild that operates 365 days per year. At the Congress we agreed that 2004 would be an exploratory year to decide what form the Guild would take as a permanent organization. We found out that a volunteer Board of 12 people cannot devote the time and effort necessary without financial compensation. The Guild is a great idea that must now move from good idea to a functional reality.

We decided not to have a similar 3 day "show" this summer, but rather skip one year of Chandler Congress until we can build a working organization so that a Chandler Guild Congress event in Summer 2005 will have proper followup and a strong Guild organizartion behind it.

Is Yankee Candle quietly moving to soy?

We recently came across a new candle line by Yankee Candle that appears to be a soy paraffin blend. If thi is true, we’re not sure how this is going to affect the cottage soy candle industry, it may be a double edged sward.

On one hand it could harm many of us to some extent, however, if they begin to show the advantages of soy it could help us.

This candle line appears to be a “designer” line aimed at those looking for something a little more contemporary. The price seems a bit high on these candles, but it may be artificially inflated to make them appear to be a “premium designer” candle.

Free Iowa Marketing Material Update (Update)

I contacted Sarah Van Gorp from the Iowa Soybean Promotion Board in regards to the Free Marketing Material as a followup to my posting here back in November. Here is Sarah's response:

"Sorry this process has taken so long. We had some changes in staff so I'm actually no longer working with the soy candles project. Elaine Kenney (ekenney@iasoybeans.com) now handles all the soy candles marketing activities.

New Word Recorded as Documented Item of Soywax History

If you want more information on the original soywax source you can go to the website: www.soyawax.com.

The Iowa Soybean Board and the Soyfoods Center have both provided extensive research and documentaion that Chandler Guild co-founder, Michael Richards was the first in the world to invent soybean wax. Mr. Richards now has one more bit of history recorded for posterity... The Oxford English Dictionary! Learn more in this article.
