Trouble with sink holes

I am having trouble with sink holes and cracking on top of my candles when they cool. Some batches turn out fine while most are doing this. I have tried pouring at warmer temperatures and pouring at a slushy stage. When should I pour so I don't have this problem?

sink holes

Hi all,I'm doing top pours but how much should I fill the first time so I get the right size top pour? If it's too much will I get new sink holes?Any suggestions appreciated.Katy in Colorado. kdiver@msn.com

Solution!

I don't like having to come back and repour. I bought a heat gun and just remelt the top layer. It melts and fills in all the holes and the top ends up with a smooth finish. It really does work great.

Sink holes

Hi,

I tried all sorts of strategies in the name of getting rid of sink holes. Lower temps, warming jars, pouring just under the point where the jar changes shape, controling the room temp, etc., just to mention a few.

In the end I went with top pours. This has eliminated my frustration and problems with minimal effort.

Top Pours

If you are using glass jars, how do you get around jump lines with a top pour?

Jump lines

Hi,

I have not had any problems with jump lines.

I use Soyawax soy and add vybar.

I did just a little bit of looking them up and found this:

Possible Problem: Too much stearic acid.
Mold was too cold.
Poured too cold.

Possible Solution: Try using less additive.
Try warming the mold before pouring.
Pour at a hotter temperature
