Soybean oil content in Phytowax container and votive wax

The Soybean and Soy Wax FAQ

The Phytowax candle waxes are the culmination of 12 years of research, testing and product improvement. We created the very first soy waxes anywhere in the world. We have dedicated the time, expense and effort to develop the best.
We get comments from many Village Chandlers that have tested all of the soy waxes and vegetable waxes presently on the market. The overwelming report from many Chandlers is that Phytowax performs the best by a huge margin. Each Village Chandler is encouraged to test all other waxes and reach your own conclusion on wax performance and ease of use. Phytowax is easy to use and produces exceptional candles.

One question that does come up often is about the soybean oil content of Phytowax blends. The very high majority percentage of all Phytowax products is soybean oil (85%). We blend in small minority additives of other vegetable oils to achieve better performance characteristics for a smooth and even wax surface, strong fragrance throw, color blend and in the case of the votive wax, ease of mold release. It is much more important to us to have the very best wax performance rather than 100% soy content. Phytowax products are 100% vegetable with no chemicals, animal fat or petroleum additives.

It is important to note that very few high quality consumer and industrial products are 100% of any one ingredient. Manufacturing is the process of combining materials and processes to achieve products that are superior to what can be derived from direct extraction from nature. Human beings are an integral part of nature's ecology. Beeswax is the product of insect ecology. Phytowax is a product of human ecology. Both are natural products, as they derive from materials that are present in nature.

For soy content comparison, soy diesel fuel as it is presently marketed is 2% to 20% soy. Soy inks are in the 30% to 40% range. Phytowax has very high soy content when compared to these other soy products. Our goal with Phytowax is to have a very high percentage of soy content --and more importantly to provide our customers with 100% product satisfaction.

Phytowax orders are now processed by four regional supply warehouse partners in the United States and one in Canada. You can request technical assistance or place wax orders at:

www.soyawax.com

Shipments to all locations outside of the U.S. and Canada are processed at the Phytowax central office at the same website.

Please answer the question.

In this article you stated “One question that does come up often is about the soybean oil content of Phytowax blends.”

If this article was meant to answer that question, it didn’t. You talked around it well, telling about why Phytowax is not 100% soy, and how much soy is in other products, but you did not answer the question. You told us when we were there for your candle making class but we did not think to write it down.

We have been asked time and time again what percentage of the wax we use is soy, so if you could please answer the question as to what percent of Phytowax is soy, I am sure we would all appreciate it.

Bob great question! I have been trying to get this answered.

Since last fall when I started doing candles, my labels have said 100% Soybean wax. I just realized this is incorrect, I know it's my own fault for not reading the boxes. However I questioned this same thing, but not here and got the same above response. I really like the Phytowax. My question though was should I have All Natural Soybean Wax on my label? I still got a fuzzy answer. So my consensus was to put that on the label. By the way are you going to the conference in August in CR. I wonder how many will be there? Have a nice day.

Jen

soy oil percentage

85% soybean oil/15% other vegetable oils

Thanks for the timely response Mike

Thanks for the timely response Mike, it is greatly appreciated.

One last question in regards to soy percentages, is that 85% for both kinds of wax?

We were under the impression based on you comments at the class last November, that there was a different percentages of soy for Container and Votive wax.

To answer Jen; sorry we won’t be able to make it Iowa that weekend. We had hoped to make it because we really want to be involved with making this industry something to be proud of. We will just have to contribute on the Chandlers Guild web sight.

votive and container candle differences

The soy oil content is comparable in both container and votive Phytowax The votive wax however is more fully hydrogenated to create a harder wax that is produced with a higher melt point.
