Soot Clean-Up

Hi,

Does anyone have a good way to clean up soot from jars?

I have jars I have burned way too long and of course soot is the result.

I am also trying to recycle jars and lids. Anyone have a good way to get rid of the scent from the lids?

TIA.

Isabel

Sooth Clean-up

Sometimes I take old candles jars and remove all the wax residue with a heat gun and wipe down with paper towels or rags, then I put them in the dishwasher to get the soot out of the nooks and crannies I can't always get to. If I don't have a load of them to clean, I also use one of those Dawn mechanical dish scrubbers. They sell them at the supermarket for around $6 and they're pretty handy for fitting down into the little jars.

Soot Cleanup

Hi Isabel, I use soap and water for most soy soot cleanup. If the soot is baked on, I use scotch brite or steel wool to remove it. The lids can be cleaned the same way. Once the lid is placed over a different scent, the old scent should be unnoticed within a day or so.

For paraffin soot, lamp oil works great.

Soot Clean-Up

Hi,

Thank you so much for the suggestion!

I was affraid to use anything stronger than a paper towel on glass. I will try the wool pads.

I use hexagon jars and the places where the corners meet are a pain to try and clean up.

Thanks for the information on the lids.

Once again, thank you so much!
