How to Ship Candles

Candle Production and Quality SIG | Chandler Guild Training Ground | General Supply Research SIG | Marketing and Business Presentation SIG

Hi! I generally make container candles and I'm curious about what others here do to prepare their candles for shipping? Is it wise to add something to the wax to harden it so the candles don't crack during shipping? What shipping method do you use? I'm interested in any ideas I can get!
Thanks,

Shipping

Amanda, I ship UPS and occasionally USPS. I do not add any hardners to the wax. In summer I refrigerate the candles and then pack them with one or more of those frozen reusable cooler packs. That's the best description I can come up with at this moment. LOL
In summer and winter, I try to ship on a day when the package will be delivered before the end of the week. If I have to ship to zone 8 I ship on Monday so it will arrive on the following Monday.
I always pack my candles in one box and then place that box inside another box with packing material between the 2 cartons. I do not buy special boxes. I merely save all boxes that vendors ship to me.
I worked for UPS for 16 years so I know what a package endures during its trek. In 4 years of shipping candles etc., I have never had a melted, frozen or broken candle. My packing a box within a box is the best way I know.
In winter the best insulator against the cold that I know of for cheap is newspaper. Those hobos you see in movies on park benches wrapped in nwespaper know what they are doing. Newspaper is a great insulator.
Bubble wrap is also good but more expensive than some other packing materials.
I save any and all packing materials that come out of shipments I receive from my vendors. Sometimes it's bubble wrap, sometimes it's styrofoam peanuts, sometimes crumpled paper. But I save it all and reuse it for my shipments.
