Soy Wax Information Tag?

Village Chandler Marketplace | Wanted | Chandler Best Business Practices

I don't know about anyone else but I plan to either attach a small tag to my candles or have an information sheet at the site of my displays that briefly lists the pros of soy wax candles. I was wondering what you guys think about deciding together on a short list of these pros that we can all uniformly use in our advertising or labeling. Let me know if anyone else is planning to attach any of this info. to their candles.

Candle tags

I use a business card that I print in landscape mode to fold in half. The front lists the fragrance and then All Natural Soy Wax.

On the inside I have written: This premium quality candle is hand blended from natural soy wax. We at Blue Turtle Creations hope you Enjoy your soy!...we loved making your candle.

On the left inside I have an earth logo with "Earth Friendly" inside the world. Under that I list, cotton wick, biodegradable.

For some of my customers, I add "Turtle Wisdom" quotes...like, "Love the world gently" from a Nigerian song.

I also use a poster I made to list the standard benefits. Additionally, I burn a paraffin and soy candle side-by-side so people can see the difference.

soy wax info

We have a flier made up that we display in a picture frame on our counter. It reads....
Soy Wax Advantages over other waxes:
Soy wax is nontoxic.
Soy wax is completely natural.
soy wax is water soluable and recyclable.
Soy wax is made from renewable resources.
Soy wax helps the american farm economy.
Soy wax is clean burning/
Soy wax produces less candle soot.
Soy wax is safe around children and pets.
Soy wax burns longer than petroleum wax.

It works for us. Generates alot of questions, get to promote the product.

Info Tags for Candles

I have small tags attached to all of my jar candles and an info sheet at selling sites that go with votives. The tag is folded in half (book style). The front of the tag has our picture logo and under the logo - All Natural Soy Wax, handmade in Spooner, WI.

Open the tag and it reads: Congratulations on the purchase of your all natural Northwoods Candle. Hand poured and made from soy wax and vegetable waxes direct from safe food-grade sources. These soy candles:
Burn cleanly
Produce significantly less candle soot
Burn longer than petroleum wax
Are water soluble for easy cleanup
Non Toxic
Environmentally safe
SOY WAX...the natural choice.

On the back I leave a space at the top for the scent and underneath that it reads:
The use of soybean wax candles stimulates economic growth for the agriculture industry. NORTHWOODS CANDLE COMPANY CANDLES offer you a totally American product handcrafted in Spooner, Wisconsin. For customer scents call 715-790-0776.

I punch a hole in the corner of the tag and attach to the candle lid with twine. (Our candles are very rustic). Hope this helps. Thanks to Mike Richards for the info I use. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to put one in the mail for you.

Kathy Zemplinski

I have also used the bubble top lids on my jars and have put soy beans in the lids - a real conversation piece and now my customers look for that in the stores.

Great Ideas!! This is maybe going to be a great site!!

I do little cards that say Soy Candle advantages
Zero soot. You'll see none of the black soot given off by petrochemical based paraffin waxes.
No Waste. Soy candles burn completely without tunneling. The containers can be reused or recycled.
Soy Candles burn longer. They burn 30-50% longer than paraffin candles.
Uses clean burning, renewable resources. Contains no petroleum products; Our wicks are all cotton. The wax is water soluble and biodegradable.
Supports Our Farming Community. I think this is most important. We need to support our farmers.
And then I put my store name address etc.

A Combined Effort

Thanks for all of the great input. I really like the way Northwoods Candle Company has advertised the benefits of soy wax.

Kathy,
If it is alright with you, I would like to use your basic lay-out but with my own personal information included. I would love for you to send me one of your tags.

I think her tag is a great source for the rest of us.

Great idea!!! :-) Maybe we can get sponsoring partner funding?

Hi Kathy,

What an excellent idea about putting soybeans in the bubble lid! Very cool. Thanks for sharing the tip.

I hope we'll be able to get some good ideas like this standardized and subsidized to help 'brand' the whole network of Village Chandlers. Since we pretty much don't overly compete with each other in our local markets and we all have equal footing in terms of access to the Internet for sales, then establishing a Guild-wide brand and reputation for quality is a "what's good for one is good for all" kind of thing. Such branding is one thing the Guild should do to support its members.

Perhaps we'll be able to get a sponsorship relationship with the Iowa Soybean Promotion Council or Cargill or both, to fund a bunch of info tags, bubble tops and supply of sample soybeans for each guild member. In exchange for such ISPC or Cargill's sponsorship to help our Guild branding, we could put a little sponsorship recognition plug on the tag as well as recognize their support for promoting soy wax on the Chandler Guild web site.

Sohodojo Jim, Let me know if

Sohodojo Jim,
Let me know if I can do anything to help. The soybeans are so inexpensive - barely a few dollars for a 50# bag ( I use the cattle feed soy beans but I munch on them while filling the lids - ha). Whatever I can do for the better of all of us is fine by me.

Branding Effort

Great idea! Let me know if there is something I can do to get the ball rolling!
