Cracks in Phytowax container wax

Candle Production and Quality SIG | Candlemaking Best Practices

I have been using Phytowax container with no additives. (other than fragrance and liq dye) Making many samples, trying different fragrances and all of them look great, burn great, and making great progress. And then....when the orders start rolling in and the products need to be finished quickly.....they are all showing up with cracks! I have tried different boxes (lots) warming up jars (even warmer) pouring at all different temp and still getting cracks! The cracks are appearing along the side of the containers and across the top of the finished product! I began using veg stearic about 3-5% (still playing with the %) and seems to be alittle better. Still having a few cracks every once in a while. Has anyone else had this happen????

Not with container but votive/pillar wax happens a lot with me.

I have never had any container wax crack. What temp are you melting & pouring at? Exactly what you are saying I have seen alot in the votive wax. Frustrating huh! Good Luck

cracks in wax

Thank you for your fast response! I will continue to "heat up" the room and the trusty heat gun! and make NOTES as we go. Thanks again.

We had similar problems with Phytowax. We used 5% veg. staeric, which helped some.

However, we also discovered that room temp between 70 & 75 degrees is best, and humidity is also a factor. To dry or two damp may also cause problems.

As with any question regarding any brand soy wax there is no one easy answer. All we can offer is advise on various techniques, you must sift through all the advise and test to see what will work best for you.

As always, ensure you document EVERYTHING. We vary our manufacturing methods slightly depending on the time of year because of variations of heat and humidity.

Sorry we could not be more precise with an answer, but we hope we have helped.
