Happy New Year, Everbody! Suddenly the web page is huge and doesn't fit on the screen. Anyone else having this problem?Katy Diver

Display settings and don't forget about profile themes, too...

Katy and Brian,

Happy New Year back at you! :-)

Lots of things are beyond our control in terms of exactly what you see on your monitor. Sometimes, as Brian mentions, there is a keyboard command or menu selection that lets you wholesale increase or decrease the font sizes. Sometimes you do an operating system or browser upgrade that changes basic display characteristics. Sometimes you get a new computer, monitor or display adapter. All kinds of things can change what you see on your screen.

We use 'cascading stylesheets' (CSS) to specify font faces and styles. We intentionally specify these settings in ways that allow your browser to be as much in control of your view as possible. When you make a text size change in your browser as Brian describes, you will REALLY see a difference on the Chandler Guild web site.

On other sites, you can make these changes and you won't see any difference in your display. Some folks – AKA web 'designers' because they want complete and total control over what you see and they think there is One Right Way – these folks will write stylsheets that keep fonts how they want them regardless of changes you make to text size settings in your browser. Specifying 'absolute' font sizes in pixels or points, for example, rather than using 'relative' font sizes like 'ems', percentages or 'small/medium/large' keywords, is one way they keep in control.

Since many 'professional' high-profile web sites are done by 'designers' rather than usability folks, you can inadvertantly change your browser's text size setting and not notice it until you hit a site like ours that gives you control over such things.

So, as Brian says, first make sure that your browser's text size setting has not changed. If this helps, but the setting does not work well with other sites you regularly visit, don't forget about changing your theme setting in your User Profile. Just click on the Edit Account/Profile link on the right-side navigation bar to go to your editable profile settings page. The very first form item you will see is the Theme item. Click to drop down this list and select the 'Chandler Guild - small' theme (if you are currently using the Default or medium theme). If for some reason your profile is set to the large theme, try the medium or small versions.

Hope this helps,

web page,thanks and pricing query

Thanks Jim, I don't know what was going on but next time I opened the site it was back to normal.Computers are very mysterious to me. I'm interested in pricing guidelines for wholesale and retail. Is this something we could have a group info page about. It seems critical to long term success.Katy

Huge Text

Yeah Katy, that happened on my machine also.
Don't know why but the fix is in the tool menu at top of page. Go to View, Text size and try the next smaller text size. Mine eventually came back to largest text size but for a while I had to use the medium text size. Beats me.
