Creating a website

Web Site Tech and Editorial SIG | The ChandlerGuild.com Web Site

I think I am at the point in my business that I would like to get a website and don't have a clue how to begin. I'm not in the position to pay the high cost of having someone do it for me so has anyone created their own website? Any advice? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kathy

Create Your Own Website

Hey Kathy,,
I could recommend a number of approaches to this problem, but overall, the most efficient way that I have seen for someone new is to use one of the all-in-one packages offered by some of the big Web Hosting companies. One of those companies that you might try is GoDaddy.com. Check it out, even if it has a funny name, that's normal these days. Sign up for your URL (your web address, like: www.thelittleoldcandlemaker.com) and then use their program called Website Complete. It will allow you to build a website in a day, and set up an online store. Everything works together, and they can set up your credit card system, etc. It's not everybody's favorite, but it's easy, comprehensive and "One Stop Shopping"
TO START key in "www.godaddy.com"
Good luck and let us all know how it is going, and what problems you experience. Or call me 303-440-1295
Ciao,
Richard

Be glad to help after the holidays...

Hi Kathy,

Glad to hear you are ready to start with a web site. I'll be glad to talk with you about your options and suggest ways to get going.

Can it wait until after New Year's? Or do you need to move forward sooner than this?

Not to worry, regardless. When it comes to small business web sites, simplicity rules. There are a number of ways you can go. One big consideration is whether your initial requirements are simply to showcase your business and products with the idea to get folks to contact you or visit your store. Actially selling on the Internet, with catalog, order processing and a merchant account to handle credit card sales ups the complexity and expense.

Talk to you soon,
