Frangrance problem

Chandler Guild Training Ground | Fragrance, EO, and Dye Research SIG | The Chandler Guild Community

Has anyone experienced a problem with candles smelling wonderful in the container and then after lighting there is no scent throw? I've purchased some Maple Pecan scent from Candles and Supplies and it smells great in the jar, but I can't smell anything while its burning. I've had a customer complaint and now I'm concerned. At first I thought it was just me. Are there any safe additives that can be used to guarantee a strong scent throw?
We have cut our fragrance to 1% due to extreme pooling on the tops of our candles. I'm wandering if we should go back to 1.5% and keep working on the pooling problem?

Thanks,
Gwen

Fragrance Testing

Hi Gwen,
I have learned that fragrance is not reliable until you test it and make sure it throws. I have found that some fragrances just do not throw. They smell good but may not work. I use 6 to 7% of fragrance in my candles (approx. 1 ounce per 16 ounces). No matter where you buy your fragrance, get a sample first, and make sure it works before buying it. Test it with no color and just the fragrance and wax to see if it works on its own.

Hope this helps,
Melanie

Fragrance Testing

Gwen,
I agree with Melanie. I purchase my fragrances from all over. I test samples like crazy. And I only purchase and sell the ones that have a strong cold throw and hot throw. I really like the maple pecan from either French Color, Bitter Creek or Wellington Fragrance. But you may not. E-mail or call and get some samples and test. If you need numbers or e-mail addresses, let me know. It is kind of disheartening isn't it? I know. That has happened to me. That is why I test like a crazy person and purchase from all over now. I don't want that to happen again.

Take Care,
Carol
